Tornadoes

Tornadoes

By: Anonymous

Tornadoes, a horrifying, destructive natural disaster ripping apart the nation one twister at a time…………….. The worlds most violent cyclones; unpredictable columns of wind rotating at speeds exceeding 300miles per hour forming from specific atmospheric conditions. These conditions are a southerly flow of warm, moist air and a high-level westerly flow of cool, dry air. This combination produces an unstable atmosphere capable of strong updrafts and heavy precipitation. Tornadoes can develop on any type of terrain like mountains, valleys, deserts and swamps. They are common in spring and summer, but regardless of the time, if the conditions are right, a tornado will result. The cyclone forms when the air in the updraft of a severe thunderstorm begins to rotate owing to the formation of a low-pressure center. If the rotation reaches the ground, the funnel cloud sucks up air like a vacuum cleaner known to physicists as the conservation of angular momentum. The phenomenon allows the funnel cloud of a tornado to form a tight circle in which wind blows speeds greater than 500km/h. From the time they begin to the time they decipitate, they usually travel 10km, however, and some have been known to travel around 200-300km

Coaching

Coaching

Sport coaching has become a major field of employment in today?s society. Almost every athlete that participates in sports today has his or her development fostered by a coach. The definition that will be used for coaching is as follows, ?a coach is someone who enables the athlete to achieve levels of performance to a degree that may not have been possible if left to his/her own endeavors.?(Mackenzie, 1997) It is my belief that a successful coach must be aware of many different factors that come into play in the coaching profession. A successful coach must possess; good communication skills, motivation skills, administrative skills, planning skills, as well as possessing good social skills (VanderZwaag, 1998). With all of these skills needed, it is my belief that sport coaching should be a core course in a sport management field. A good understanding of sport management concepts will allow an individual to become a much more successful sports coach. The sporting environment has become very competitive; therefore management skills are an essential part of the coaching profession today. Three essential aspects of coaching that this paper will address are communication, injury prevention, and planning.

Beowulf

Beowulf

Beowulf demonstrates how a hero can achieve a sort of immortality even if he is doomed by fate to die in battle.

I would have to say that I agree with this statement even though there is really no hard proof of it. The reason I do agree though is that he seems to be immortal until he dies, so that had all the people believing that he was immortal. He knew that he would die, just like all of us, but he didn?t have any idea when it would happen. He makes the people think he is immortal by the demons and beasts he had slayed. He also boasts to the people about the sea monster that drug him to the sea floor, but he still prevails against him. While telling this story he does make a statement that should convince everyone he is mortal, and the quote is, ?Fate often saves an undoomed man when his courage is good.? This quote proves that he is mortal, but it just wasn?t meant to be

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer occurs when there is a malignant tumor inside the breast. Each year more than 185,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and the incidence of this disease is rising in developed countries. There are approximately 43,500 deaths from breast cancer annually, making this disease second to lung cancer as the leading cause of death by cancer among women. Ninety percent of breast cancers are detected by women themselves, often through breast self-examination (BSE).
Larry Norton, MD, President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology described the basics of cancer on a cellular level in an interview with the Discovery Health Network, ?All the tissues in the body know to grow to a certain size and to perform certain functions. When something goes wrong with the instructions in certain cells, they do several things that are abnormal, and these are things that we call cancer. Too many cell divisions occur so you can get a lump, a mass. These cells spread into surrounding tissue and develop the capacity and this is the serious part-to grow in other parts of the body.? From this very general explanation of how cancer works, we can

Cleveland Browns

Impact of PR on Browns Move to Baltimore

When Art Modell made a secret deal to move his Cleveland Browns, he had no idea what the uproar would be like. To their fans, the Browns are Cleveland and having them in any other city is unthinkable. The event displayed many of the components of Public Relations, as well as the consequences of a breakdown in the organization and public relationship.
On November 6, 1995 Modell announced that he would be moving his team to Baltimore Maryland for the 1996 season. Model was in a battle with the city of Cleveland over a new stadium proposal when the decision was announced (Ridenour). Cleveland fans would never be happy with the idea of losing their team, but the way Modell communicated the facts made the situation worse. When rumors of the move first surfaced, Modell told Cleveland officials that he didn?t want to discuss the team?s future until the end of the season. However, at the same time he was making secret negotiations with Baltimore (Ridenour).
This is and example of how Modell used the media to mislead the public. The most harmful part of the situation was that Modell was not honest. He strung

Beowulf

Beowulf

In the Beginning
A Quote from Beowulf

?So. The Spear-Danes in days gone by
and the kings who ruled them had courage and greatness.
We have heard of those princes? heroic campaigns.
There was Shield Sheafson, scourge of many tribes,
a wrecker of mead-benches, rampaging among foes.
This terror of the hall-troops had come far.
A foundling to start with, he would flourish later on
as his powers waxed and his worth was proved.
In the end each clan on the outlying coasts
beyond the whale-road had to yield to him
and begin to pay tribute. That was one good king (1-11).?

These lines, which open the poem Beowulf establish the highly stylized nature of the poem as well as setting forth some of the poems central ideas. The beginning lines of Beowulf also introduce a number of thematic ideas that prove to be important throughout the poem.
In the beginning Seamus Heaney chooses to translate the first word of the poem as ?So.? I?ve also seen it translated as ?Hark? but this translation grabs your attention right away. From the start the poem whips us into its world while maintaining an inviting, conversational tone. In these first few lines the translation recreates many of

Children In Sports

Children In Sports

Since the creation of man, sports have had a tremendous role in the way people live their lives. From the time we are born, until the time we die, most of us are involved in some way with sports. Whether it is a scrimmage game of soccer at recess in elementary school, playing on the varsity athletic team, or simply watching the Olympics on TV, sports have an influential role in our everyday lives. We are taught at a young age that sports are fun, exciting and rewarding. Over the past couple decades the growth in youth sport has reflected the popularity of professional sport. This popularity has had a profoundly positive affect on youth sports. Many of us can look back on our childhood with fond memories, remembering the games we played, the friends we made, the fun we had and the lessons we learnt. From the time that I was three until I was 14, I was heavily involved in gymnastics. I never regretted being so involved in sports because it has given me opportunities and opened doors that I would have never seen if I had not been involved with athletics. Growing up I never realized the

Beowulf

Beowulf

Beowulf

Loyalty and Generosity in Beowulf The society depicted in the poem ?Beowulf? depended on two basic characteristics of its people. Loyalty and generosity are the two characteristics that bound this culture together. Throughout the poem, the people must depend on the loyalty and generosity of Beowulf and his warriors to defend them from evil. Society as described in Beowulf, was a very warlike society therefore, if Beowulf and his warriors were not giving of themselves in order to protect their people, the end result might have been drastically different. In the days of Beowulf the only reason for living was to be a loyal person, even if that meant death. If you were not a loyal person you basically had no reason to live because people would not even recognize you as a normal man. So it seems pretty obvious why most people during this time in society, were very loyal to their society and families. And in being a loyal person, also came giving of yourself. When the monster Grendel hears of the joy in Heorot and comes down to attack Beowulf?s people the Danes, this is the first time we see loyalty When Beowulf hears of what

Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton

Sir Isaac Newton was born on Christmas day of 1642, in Woolsthorpe, England. As a lad, Newton showed extraordinary signs of intelligence. He was always reading books to expand his knowledge. He studied for five years at the University of Cambridge, and with the help of a common red fruit and Galileo; Sir Isaac formulated the three fundamental laws of motion. All of the following examples neglect friction and air resistance.
Newton?s first law of motion is the law of inertia, which states that a body at rest or motion tends to stay at rest or motion. Suppose a car, going 30 M.P.H., hits a pole. The driver would be ejected out the windshield, because his body would want to stay in motion. If that same car were to take a turn to quickly and loose traction, it would continue in the same direction it was going. Before this guy did all the stupid stuff I just said, he set a mug of coffee on the top of his car, while he put air in his tires at the air pump. He then got in his car and drove away, forgetting about
