Presentation On The Changing Political Causes Of The French Revolution.
Class struggles in Britain in the 1960?s and 70?s led to greater divisions amongst the people. Because of the ideological desire for something to benefit the people amid increasing social chaos, socialism looked attractive and many Marxist ideas gained popularity and support. This struggle was echoed throughout much of the world. The French Revolution was perceived as a great success for democracy. Its three key aims of liberty, equality and fraternity became desirable objectives.
In the late 1960?s, the concept of moral decline in society was introduced by the right to explain crumbling traditional values. For example by 1968, students in France were rioting. This period of minor revolt was echoed throughout the world. All sides recognised that changes urgently needed to be made. The law and order element of politics made its first appearance, aimed at targets of a non political kind, including, student movements, counter cultures, the drift towards moral permissiveness, and the conflict between authority and social values. Many, Marxists amongst the great masses became detached from their nations traditional ideologies. Their growing power caused a cry to come

Big Bang Theory

Big Bang Theory

It is always a mystery about how the universe began, whether if and when it will end. Astronomers construct hypotheses called cosmological models that try to find the answer. There are two types of models: Big Bang and Steady State. However, through many observational evidences, the Big Bang theory can best explain the creation of the universe. The Big Bang model postulates that about 15 to 20 billion years ago, the universe violently exploded into being, in an event called the Big Bang. Before the Big Bang, all of the matter and radiation of our present universe were packed together in the primeval fireball–an extremely hot dense state from which the universe rapidly expanded.1 The Big Bang was the start of time and space. The matter and radiation of that early stage rapidly expanded and cooled. Several million years later, it condensed into galaxies. The universe has continued to expand, and the galaxies have continued moving away from each other ever since. Today the universe is still expanding, as astronomers have observed. The Steady State model says that the universe does not evolve or change in time. There was no beginning in the past, nor will there be change in

Genetically Engineered Food

Genetically Engineered Food

Genetically Engineered Food
Genetically engineered food and agricultural biotechnology have generated considerable interest and controversy in the United States and around the world. Some have faith in the technology?s benefits while others raise questions about environmental and food safety issues. Genetically engineered food is a product of human advancement that holds a key to a promising future, only if the general public is properly educated about the concept of agricultural biotechnology.
To better get a hold on the concept of genetically engineered food, it?s necessary to understand what is actually meant by genetically engineered or modified food. Genetic engineering is a division of science that involves altering a genome of an organism to attain certain results. Recent innovations in biotechnology allow scientists to select specific genes from one organism and introduce them into another to confer a desired trait. This technology allows to produce new varieties of animals and plants more quickly than conventional methods and to introduce traits that are unachievable through traditional techniques (genetically 1). Therefore, genetically engineered food is obtained from a source-whether plant or an animal-that has been modified genetically by either introducing new genes or somehow altering the original genes of

PreMarital Counseling

PreMarital Counseling

One major problem in our society today is divorce. Over half of all marriages end in divorce. This rate is extremely high, so high, in fact, that this is indeed a crisis. Divorce affects everyone involved; it leads to one or both partners being left broken and it is detrimental to children. My interest in this topic comes from being a child of parents who failed in their marriage. While I have read many books and articles on this subject, I can tell you first hand that Divorce is harmful to children. This is why we need to find a way to bring down this outrageous rate of divorce. While many religious communities have attempted to counteract the rate of divorce with premarital counseling programs, marriage counseling programs, and marriage education programs; it is up to our government to resolve this crisis with mandatory premarital counseling. Since I expect that a majority of you will one day be married, it is important that you seek out such programs and support efforts to make them mandatory.
Researchers have found that the leading contributors to divorce are four negative processes including: criticism, defensiveness, contempt, and “stonewalling” (listener withdrawal). These negative processes can

Charles Townes

Charles Townes

Charles Townes, who received a Nobel Prize for his role in the invention of the maser and the laser, first worked as a consultant in the field of solid-state masers for Bell Labs in 1956 after conceiving the idea of the maser in 1951. In 1957 he began working with Arthur Schawlow on a laser project that would operate at wavelengths a thousand times shorter than the maser. He worked with a colleague at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ali Javan, experimenting with some equipment that tested the theory of relativity using rotating lasers.

In 1954 Charles Townes presented his idea of the MASER, a Microwave Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. This invention has made great impact in radar, communications, astronomy, navigation,

Genetic Testing And Its Social Implications

Genetic Testing And Its Social Implications

Applied genetics? most impacts on society are as a result of genetic tests. In general, genetic tests seek to detect some feature of a person?s genetic constitution. This feature can be a disease causing mutation or a marker DNA sequence used to detect presence of another gene. Obviously these procedures used for testing the status of DNA, RNA or chromosomes are included in genetic tests. What is more it is possible to include some protein based tests and classical medical examinations when they aim to detect inheritance of a trait. Genetic tests have been divided into four categories in this text, and they will be examined in greater detail later. These categories are: Prenatal tests that are applied on fetuses during pregnancy. Neonatal screening just after birth and career screening of marrying couples. Testing for serious late-onset disease before the symptoms occur. Testing to assess the probability of developing complex disease. There are a couple of considerations about genetic tests:
1. First of all, the tests should be reliable. When a positive or a negative result is obtained, we should be confident in that result with a confidence approaching 100%. To achieve such a high accuracy is not as easy as

Persusasive Speeches Are Bad Assignments

Persusasive Speeches Are Bad Assignments

There is no logical reason to write a persuasive speech for an
English class. Persuasive speeches definitely do not need to be a
requirement for high school students.

The definition of ?persuade? in The Macquarie Dictionary is: To induce one to believe or do something; to argue into an opinion or procedure; to plead with, urge. I have always thought that someone who let his own opinion be changed by someone else is a person who lacks a strong will. I understand that some people have a certain talent for convincing other people, but I personally would not change my mind about a subject unless I was unsure about that subject in the first place.

I became aware of one personal trait when writing this paper that is I do not really care about much. I have no intention of letting other people know about the few things that I do care about either. I found it pointless to try to write a persuasive speech about a subject for which I do not care. The only thing I could think to try to convince people to do was to refuse to write a persuasive speech ever again. I faced a kind of moral

Genetic Manipulation Should Not Be Allowed

Genetic Manipulation Should Not Be Allowed

Imagine a world where humans are able to play around with their genes. You could remove a genetic disorder plaguing your family, add another 20 points to your son?s IQ or even change your daughter?s gender. With the advent of new and improved technology on genetic manipulation barging on our doorsteps, many people believe that all this will soon become possible. But is genetic manipulation really this miraculous History of failed genetic experiments, time and time again, have shown that perhaps it is just to soon to assume ourselves as Gods. According to Zallen (2002), Jesse Gelsinger, a young man, died in a gene therapy experiment. This tragic event sent shockwaves throughout the United States research community and raised new questions about the prospects of human gene therapy. Friedmann (2002), a professor from UCSD quoted in Recer (2002), said that ? inheritable genetic modification, or IGM, is not safe for humans.?. Indeed, it is clear that genetic manipulation of human beings should not be allowed. Based on our current technology and scientific knowledge, it is simply foolhardy to imitate mother nature.

The most feared and heatedly debated issue on human genetic manipulation is that technology associated with it will be strongly

Over And Out

Over And Out

Muscles, axes, water and CPR; all these will be needed to survive a fire, treat injuries or other vital functions. Firefighting is a job that protects the public by rapidly responding to a variety of emergencies in hazardous conditions at irregular hours. Because of the dangerous encounters, it requires organization, and precise teamwork. My interest in this profession is the nature of the work, benefits, and a typical day as a hero.

Firefighters are usually the first assistance to an accident, a house fire or simply a 911 call. They are the total package, all services in one emergency unit. Most calls responded to by the fire crew involve some type of medical assistance. All firefighters must be certified as emergency medical technicians. This knowledge comes in handy while busting threw smoked filled buildings or scrambling threw wreckage at an accident. At the scene of a crisis each fighter has a duty assigned to them by a superior officer, whether it would be to position the ladder, connect the hose or to

Personal Statement

Personal Statement

We are the media and the media is us. That statement is very broad and is so for a good reason. Through out the world and the history of our society, media has transformed, melted, bent, molded and made our society and culture what it is today. But at the same time, our culture and society has done the exact same thing to media. It is hard to realize or imagine a time without televisions, telephones, fax machines, printers, computers, cell phones, pagers and other electronic technologies that have made our lives, hopefully, stress-free. Those items were and are still being invented today to make our lives easier and better, but are they really making life easier and better Media plays a big part in defining what society wants and gets. Society tells our media what society wants. There are both upsides and downsides to the media, one saying what both of us want and two doing what both of us want.
First let?s start with the downsides of our media. Our media censors us and desensitizes us to our own society. Lets take for example the news, in news the
